August 19 and September 2

The ongoing pandemic challenges our mental health as well as our physical health. Join us for two workshops:

August 19:

Oh the Places You’ll Go… Eventually!: Maintaining Our Mental Health & Our Children’s
With Dr. Mary Rourke /Hosted by Rabbis Geri Newburge & Peter Rigler

Balancing the need for social connection with the need for social distance presents new stresses daily, as parents struggle to oversee their children’s learning while also managing work demands, as teens and young adults struggle with the loss of opportunities to foster autonomy, and as all of us worry about how to stay healthy, how to help the ones we love stay healthy, and how to keep everyone on a strong developmental path.  Join us as we make space to discuss these issues, and how we can stay emotionally healthy as we shift into a new year. How do we manage the challenges of living and parenting in a pandemic? How do we manage our own stress and anxiety while also helping our children — of all ages — manage their feelings? We will reflect on our common challenges and will build a shared framework for staying grounded and building resilience. Some time will be reserved for questions and answers.

Mary Rourke, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist. As Co-Director of Dragonfly Psychological Associates, she works with individuals and families at all stages of development to promote healthy adaptation and coping. Mary has specialized training in working with families experiencing serious medical illness, and spends much of her clinical time helping families navigate normative reactions to the scary and not-so-normative challenges that illness can bring. Mary also directs the doctoral program in clinical psychology at Widener University, and spends a good deal of time training future psychologists. She and her husband have two sons, and are members of the Temple Sholom in Broomall congregation.
