SUMMARY:Liberal Zionism for the 21st Century
DESCRIPTION:Explore the core tensions and values of liberal Zionism as we grapple with the dominant critiques of Israel and Zionism in a post-October 7 reality. Together\, we’ll explore frameworks for holding moral complexity and talking about Israel with courage\, compassion\, and clarity. Students are encouraged to register for the entire series\, but participation in individual sessions is also possible – please reach out to Rabbi Kalisch. Brown bag lunches (kosher style) are welcome! \nThis course is based on the iEngage curriculum from the Shalom Hartman Institute\, which seeks to elevate the existing discourse from a crisis-based focus to one rooted in Jewish values and ideas. The Shalom Hartman Institute is a leading pluralistic center of research and education in Israel and North America that is redefining the conversation about Judaism in modernity\, religious pluralism\, Israeli democracy\, Israel and world Jewry\, and the relationship with other faith communities. \nSign up here.

SUMMARY:Beth David Winter Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Beth David Annual Retreat December 5 – 7 at Camp Harlam\n\nRegistration is Live!!!\nJoin us for an overnight at camp! We are so excited to bring our community to Camp Harlam for camp style Judaism. It’s going to be a great way to build community\, for kids and for adults. And this year\, we get to be there all weekend! Note: For families that do not attend\, there will be a special program at synagogue the morning of December 7. \nMost of our time will be programmed: with everyone\, kids and adults participating\, in parallel activities\, and with choices of activities. Our time together will include: Shabbat services\, a Smores Oneg Shabbat (a Smoreneg!)\, adult hang-out at the fire pit afterward\, gaga\, an obstacle course\, learning and exploration\, and plenty of time to socialize and have fun. \nWe have some great things planned already\, and will be working with our volunteer committees in the coming weeks to plan even more! \nAdult Housing includes double or queen sized beds with private bathrooms; and there’s a variety of options for housing for kids: in a room with parents/guardians\, in a room next to parents/guardians\, or (for 2nd grade and up) dormitory style group housing. Teens in 7th grade and up will be able to help out as Junior Counselors\, with a discounted registration of $50\, and stay in teen housing–let Rabbi Koppel know if you plan to join your teen or if your teen prefers to come on their own\, so Rabbi can get you a discount code. \nRegistration is live!! And is due on November 21.\nDetails and registration here:\nhttps://bdavid.shulcloud.com/form/harlamretreat2025.html
