Beth David’s First Shabbat Shared!
SORRY, RESERVATIONS ARE CLOSED
We are excited to announce a new program that provides all of us an opportunity for connection by sharing a Shabbat meal with others in a welcoming home hosted by members of our community. This event is in lieu of services at Beth David. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to create new friendships!
SHABBAT DINNERS HOSTED BY COMMUNITY MEMBERS: We’ve included information about our four featured dinners, including our hosts’ general location, meal preferences, and interests. We omitted other details, such as the exact address and the names of our hosts. We encourage you to make your selection based on the geography and interests of our hosts and be open to meeting new people.
There is no cost to attend this event, though some of our hosts request that guests bring a dish to share. Given that there are a limited number of “seats at the table” we suggest you sign up soon. And, if you find that the dinner you hoped to attend is full, you have three options: sign up for a different dinner; add your name on the waiting list for the dinner you hoped to attend; or wait until the next time we offer Shabbat Shared!
Thank you to our hosts of Shabbat Shared who have agreed to open their homes for members to create new friendships and share the beauty of Shabbat!
INCLUSIVITY: We include and celebrate all of our community members. Some homes may not be fully accessible to those who use a cane or wheelchair, while other homes are fully accessible. Also, not all community members have a means of transportation to dinner. If you have questions regarding the accessibility of a home or need a lift, don’t hesitate to contact Marjorie Volpp (mkvolpp@gmail.com / 610-639-3869) or Lauren Steinfeld Knoll (sknoll@gmail.com / 610-513-8177 )
DETAILS
Shabbat Shared 1:
Join Us Oceanside (Wayne) for OurShell Shabbat – 6:30 pm
We will welcome Shabbat in a special room in our house full of ocean treasures including our large collection of specimen seashells, corals, sponges, urchins, sea stars and our own coral reef. We will provide our guests with a tour of our collection including anecdotes about our travels. Menu includes roast chicken as the main course, challah, potatoes, veggies and beverages. We ask that our guests bring a dessert. And if you have a favorite wine you would like to drink with dinner, feel free to bring it. If you have children 12-18 who would like to participate, please let us know. Our house is on a hill and you can drive up the driveway and park there or park on the street and walk up. There is a step to enter the house and steps into the living room. We do not have pets and are an allergy-free house, so no perfume or cologne, please. We look forward to sharing our Shell Shabbat with you!
Shabbat Shared 2:
Friendship & Warmth in an Empty Wynnewood Nest – 6:30 pm
We love to entertain and we look forward to sharing Shabbat with new and old friends. We will serve a flexitarian meal (something for everybody), challah and drinks and would welcome our guests to bring salad/side dish or dessert. We can coordinate when we know who is coming. We have 2 large dogs who will be separate from us but we are not a pet allergy-free home. We also have plenty of parking and some steps up to our house and within our house. We look forward to you joining us in our home.
Shabbat Shared 3:
Beautiful Center City Skyline – 6:30 pm
Enjoy the view of a beautiful center city skyline, the delicious smell of homemade challah and much more in this lovely and warm Shabbat Shared hosts’ home. Music lovers will enjoy a special instrument collection as well. This is not a kosher home. Hosts are happy to design dinner around any allergies they know about. Parking is available at the building at no charge.
Shabbat Shared 4:
Friendship in the Heart of Narberth – 6:30 pm
We are really looking forward to sharing our home for a fun and delicious dinner with some of our fellow Beth David congregants. Strong connections and friends are built at the dining table and we can’t wait to host this dinner. We live in the heart of Narberth right on Narberth and Narbrook Parks so there is plenty of street parking. We have a hypo-allergenic dog and she will be around but not a bother – We are happy to welcome kids as well as adults or happy to just have adults – our children are fully in the swing of sports and friends and we can’t be certain they will be around as well. As for the meal – We will likely serve a combination of meat or lamb and fish with some accompanying sides and would welcome wine or apps/cheese and that is something we can coordinate together as we get closer.
