The mission of the Reform Jewish Movement’s 2020 Civic Engagement Campaign, “Every Voice, Every Vote” is to encourage all U.S. citizens to exercise their right to vote and to break down obstacles that shut some out of the voting booth. Perhaps no other organization knows more about the obstacles to voting in Pennsylvania and how to overcome them than Committee of Seventy.
That’s why the Reform Jewish congregations in Southeast Pennsylvania, members of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism (RAC), are co-hosting a virtual event on Thursday, Oct. 8, featuring Lauren Cristella, Committee of Seventy’s Chief Advancement Officer. Lauren’s duties include running Committee of Seventy’s trailblazing WeVote initiative, which aims to “promote a culture of voting” across PA.
Lauren is going to help us understand the factors that keep many Pennsylvanians from voting and the tactics that can increase civic engagement and voter participation. She’ll then look at voting challenges in PA specific to the 2020 election, and separate fact from fiction when it comes to voting by mail and provide us with the latest on the rules for voting and working at the polls. She’ll also tell us about the voter education tools WeVote and Committee of Seventy offer voters. Fortified with all of this information, you’ll be all set to vote, and if you’re doing phone banking as a volunteer with our Civic Engagement Campaign, you’ll be a more effective champion for the voting rights of others
Rabbi Kalisch will be making the opening remarks. A passionate social justice activist, Rabbi Kalisch has fully embraced the RAC’s Civic Engagement Campaign. She will inspire us to act, as she shares portions of her powerful 5781 Yom Kippur sermon, “We Are Part of Something Bigger Than Ourselves.”
So, please join with members of other Reform Jewish congregations in Southeast PA on Oct. 8, for equal parts knowledge, inspiration, and shared purpose. Sign up at http://bit.ly/Oct8-VotingEvent.
