Pride at Beth David
Beth David@ Narberth Pride at the Park
Saturday, July 15, 12-4pm
Narberth Park, 80 Windsor Ave, Narberth
Show your Beth David pride while celebrating Pride! We’ll be staffing a table at Pride in the Park and giving out slices of homemade rainbow challah to make sure everyone in our community knows that Judaism celebrates and cherishes our LBGTQ members and neighbors. If you can sign up for a shift to help staff the table, contact Lisa Miller (lmiller@bdavid.org), or just come by for some challah so we can wish each other a Shabbat Shalom!
PAST PRIDE EVENTS
Prayers for Pride
Every Friday night in June, services will include a reading from Mishkan Ga’avah, the Reform Movement’s new collection of LGBTQ prayers and poetry. Interested in reading a prayer during services, or in learning more about the prayerbook? Do you have a loved one who recently came out as LGBTQ who would like a copy as a gift from our clergy? Reach out to Rabbi Kalisch, bkalisch@bdavid.org.
Fighting for our Kids: A Conversation with Rabbi Daniel Bogard
Tuesday, June 20, 7:45pm
Zoom Only: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81835059903?pwd=ajhOMEJZcEtrd1pyMjl2Wkd4dGNaQT09
“The first thing that you learn when you are the parent of a trans kid and you live in Missouri is that you need to protect your child from your government.”
Join Rabbi Daniel Bogard in a special Zoom session to learn about his family’s story of raising a trans child, serving as a congregational rabbi, and feeling like your State government is at war with your family. Rabbi Daniel will also share from the thousands of years of Jewish texts that speak to the reality that for as long as there have been Jews, there have been trans Jews … because being trans is just another way of being human. Read more about the Reform Movement’s commitment to transgender rights here: https://rac.org/press-room/reform-movement-affirms-commitment-transgender-rights
Rabbi Daniel Bogard is a rabbi, an educator, and an activist in Missouri working to protect trans kids and other vulnerable minorities from the bullies who run his State government. He serves as a rabbi at Central Reform Congregation in St. Louis, MO along with his wife Rabbi Karen Bogard, he teaches future Christian clergy at Eden Theological Seminary, and he is often found in Jefferson City advocating for Jewish values to be represented in the public square. Rabbi Daniel is a co-founder and president of the board of Camp Indigo Point, a 2-year-old sleep away camp for trans, gender-expansive, and LGBTQ+ youth. Daniel is a Senior Rabbinic Fellow of the Shalom Hartman Institute, and over the last few months his work has been featured in sources ranging from MSNBC to the front page of the Washington Post. He is the proud parent of three amazing children.
Rainbow Challah Baking Workshop
Friday, June 23, 12-2pm and 4-6pm
Join Cantor Goodlev and bake a rainbow challah to show your support for Pride month! We will make extra to prepare for Beth David’s table at the Narberth Pride at the Park Festival the next day, and you can also take one home with you! There will be two stages of baking – join for either or both, if you can!
Stage 1 – mixing/dying – 12:00-2:00pm
Stage 2 – braiding/baking – 4:00-6:00pm
No baking experience necessary. Let Cantor Goodlev (lgoodlev@bdavid.org) know by 6/21 if you are coming so we can buy ingredients. If you can’t make it but want to make your own rainbow challah to donate to our table at Pride in the Park, just let Cantor Goodlev know.
Torah Study for Pride
Saturday, June 24, 10:30 – 11:45am
25 Windsor Ave, Narberth
Join Rabbi Kalisch for a special Torah Study session in honor of Pride! In order to make it easy to attend both Torah Study and Pride at the Park, we’ll be meeting across the street from Narberth Park at the home of Beth David members Jenna and Josh Millman. No knowledge of Torah or Hebrew necessary, but an appreciation of coffee, bagels, and learning is appreciated!
